Pollution Prevention Practices

With the rise in the number of boats across the Florida coastline, there is a steep rise in the water body pollution which is greatly affecting the coastal resources. To ascertain that the pollution is reduced along the coastline, the Florida clean boating partnership has suggested various pollution prevention practices that help to bring down the hazards caused by the increase in traffic.

The pollution prevention practices suggest various methods and techniques to prevent pollution. The suggestions are for both the marinas and boatyards as well as for the boaters. These pollution prevention practices are all about deploying good maintenance practices and lesser use and proper disposal of hazardous materials. For instance, it is been found that certain boat cleaning and maintenance products, such as paint residue, solvents, and engine cleaners, are toxic to marine life in the water. Hence such products and their remains should be disposed as hazardous waste.

There are various causes that are responsible for the rise in pollution along the coastline. Some of the issues like fuel spills, oil leak, engine maintenance, sewage, boat cleaning etc. are the major causes for pollution. The pollution prevention practices aim to help increase the awareness on proper maintenance of boats and disposal of hazardous materials.
